I could get behind that if it were possible to interview everyone in a way that conceals their gender, as is done with orchestras. I also think in many jobs the "requirements" are not requirements, but instead a laundry list of things about the current occupant of the role that people believe made him successful. It's usually possible to be successful in a job in multiple different ways, so opening the door to people who might not have the traits that (may or may not) have made the current person successful can allow people to be hired that have skills that the current team doesn't have and thus can't see the importance of.
