I had basically the opposite reaction after I moved back to Mississippi from California. In California, you see people from all races in service positions, but in Mississippi, nearly all service positions are filled by Black people. And I found the unspoken implication that it's the role of Black people to wait on me and my family _extremely_ uncomfortable.
