I personally think its great the board has the insight to understand that John has gaps, rather than seeing him as the hero 100% of the time. The truth is, many startups are like High School, where friendships trump everything else. If John has been there since day one, you can bet his relationships are pretty entrenched. The fractional CTO, whatever that is, has no chance.
