I remember a school assembly when I was in elementary school where a man (teacher? coach? IDK I was like 8) got on stage and said "Who here thinks the South should have won the Civil War?" We were clearly intended to cheer, so I did, along with most other students. Thinking back to that, I cry for how hurtful that would have been for my Black classmates.
