I think the point of all the annoying ads is to get you to pay for YouTube+, which is actually quite nice and IMO worth it.

I do block ads on my phone, just because I use it primarily for news reading and I can't read news with flashing whirling ads everywhere. And I HATE articles that have 2 sentences, ad, 2 sentences, ad, and then you get to the end and it has nothing to do with the headline I clicked or obviously was written by AI.
