I think you're missing a few things here, probably because you're young. *You* can always make more money, but you're a white guy who had someone paying for jiu jitsu lessons for a few years before he was 19. That suggest layers of safety net that a lot of people don't have, and it also gave you a head start. Imagine you had to pay for everything yourself, including food and shelter, at 18, and had no prior jiu jitsu. Would you be able to write this article?
Another thing is that the people who take the extra hour to write or stay home and practice instead of teaching or competing are people that no one has ever heard of. It's very possible that all the people we've ever heard of in anything are mediocre compared to the people who optimize completely for just being great, even if no one knows. Certainly there are plenty of people out there whose reputation is far larger than their talents, simply because they're great at doing the things that build their reputations.
