I want you to think about that first point and how it results in serious fairness issues for people who have significant responsibilities outside of work. Yes, if you have nothing to do outside of work (or if you can steal your partner's time and use that to build your career), all your time is your own to advance your career. But do you really want to work for an organization that incentivizes work habits that are not sustainable for significant portions of their workforce and can lead to strain in people's marriages (up to and including divorce)?

So, yes, definitely controversial.
