I wouldn’t sweat it. This sort of thing happens even with developers who have many years doing development. It’s really common to get people who just haven’t ever experienced a well-run project or a clean codebase, regardless of how many years they have been doing this. Add to this a management team who thinks a “flat” team structure is ideal or who put the wrong team member in charge, and it’s actually really rare to find a place to work that remotely resembles the shiny world depicted in peoples’ blogs.
