I think that it's important to remember that your business value derives from your whole self, not just the skills on your resume. And just because your whole self is not valued in one place does not mean that there is no place where the traits that have gotten you fired will make you a star (as long as the "authentic you" isn't a misogynist white nationalist or something--and if that's the case you can still work for Fox News). And that's where your personal brand comes in. How can companies seek you out for those traits if you don't make that information available? But you obviously aren't totally anti creating your own brand, or you wouldn't be on Medium.
