IDK, a lot of people I've previously worked with have gone on and worked for FAANG companies. I'd say that for many of them, the skills where it actually counts are pretty average.

When I interviewed at Apple, they were looking for an answer that was extremely bad practice. When I interviewed for Facebook, they wanted an answer where you'd need to know a knapsack algorithm. On the front end. I have been in the business for > 10 years since then and I literally have never needed to solve a similar problem. However, I have needed to break a UI into easily-testable pieces and hack the crap out of CSS. If you hire someone on the FE that doesn't have these skills, they may be a genius or not, but they will struggle in the job.
