I'm often horrified about how movies and tv portray people as being expendable, and how they often draw lines between who's expendable and who's not. For example, there's an episode of The Mandalorian where some off-worlders and Sand People collaborate to kill a sand worm thing. And the Sand People take the majority of the losses, in a way we're clearly not intended to be horrified by, but we gasp in relief as the off-worlders are spared. We are supposed to see them similarly to the mammoth-like creatures that also do not come out very well in the episode. That whole thing felt very racist somehow, but bystanders routinely get slaughtered in movies and tv, regardless of whether we're supposed to consider them to be "lesser" or not, and we don't even blink.
