It seemed for a moment you were about to head for a full-throated endorsement of universal basic income, but you never got there. If we assume that a significant portion of today's jobs can be automated, then really there's no need for people to do them for the value to continue to be produced. In that case, the value should be distributed to the general population who no longer need to be involved in producing the value. And then work-life balance will really be a thing. We can all work if, as, and when we decide to in a way that adds meaning to our own lives. And if we have a relative that needs care, we can take up _that_ work without guilt or worry.
