It's also an assumption you don't have aging parents you need to coordinate with siblings to care for, kids in school, a partner with a good local job, etc. I actually have moved several times (for my now ex-husband's career). When I lived in Atlanta, I had a local job but everyone was remote so we only met occasionally. When I lived in San Jose, I had a local job (of course it's easier to get a job that pays well there), but honestly it felt kinda remote. I once spent several hours working out of my boss's cube because he wasn't responding to emails or Slack messages. I guess when you're working in the office that's something you can do that you can't do remotely :-D.
