It's essential to know what's in the Bible even if you don't believe it. Art and literature are full of biblical references you won't get if you don't know what's in there, but also so much of our culture and politics go back to some version of the Bible, you won't understand what's going on or know how to hold your own in their world if you have no idea what they're basing their ideas on.
