Long term, your code won't have much value to the business if it's unmaintainable. The idea that we can slap any old crap together and somehow that can work long term is extremely harmful.

Plus, it's terrible to insist your employees do low-quality work and if your developers are forced to work in a nightmare codebase the only ones you'll be able to keep will be the code equivalent of slobs.
