My (highly conservative) sister constantly complains about how the system is designed to drain away the money my parents saved so that my mother can be cared for. But if I try to ask her why that's a problem and free childcare and other things designed to allow parents to keep the money they work for is a problem, she will find a way to not respond (usually by talking over the top of me until I hang up). Obviously, the reason is that she wants to be able to have some of the money my mom has saved once my mom is gone.
