So much this. Our entire society is designed to force people onto the hamster wheel or starve. I'm currently between jobs, and the amount of gratuitous humiliation my State makes people go through to get the unemployment benefits that aren't anywhere close to enough to live on is ridiculous. I'm well enough off I can show how stupid I think it is (for example, by bringing my laptop and doing my thing while I have to wait for the appointment that's about nothing more than dragging me in to sign some useless paperwor).
