What gets me is if you asked many young coders if they think they'll suddenly get stupid at 40 they *probably* won't say yes.

But honestly I think the industry is coming around. There are so *many* things you need to know to do the job well these days that a young person really can't do it--those pieces need to be in your head and fitting together. And I think businesses are starting to see that.
